Biography Willem Schrofer (1898 - 1968):

Willem Schrofer was born in The Hague (1898) and died in Leiden (1968). Schrofer made study trips to France and Italy. Willen Schrofer painted and drew portraits, figures, still-lifes and landscapes in an impressionistic style. Schrofer's work from 1926 to 1946 was abstract, following contacts with El Lissitzky and László Moholy-Nagy.

Willem Schrofer produced important constructivist and geometric works. Schrofer taught at the Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in the Hague (1937-1962) and the  'Instituut van Kunstnijverheidsonderwijs ' in Amsterdam.

* Work exhibited in Cobra Museum of Modern Art (Amstelveen) during 'Focus Paris' exhibition in 2002.
